Head of Internal Audit F/M

In this leadership role, you will be responsible for driving the development and delivery of internal audit within the financial services sector. You will combine strong technical expertise with leadership capabilities to support stakeholders in strengthening their governance, risk management, and control environments.

You will oversee complex engagements and contribute to the growth and strategic positioning of the audit department. At the same time, you will play an important role in developing and mentoring teams to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage internal audit engagements, including both outsourced and co-sourced assignments
• Advise senior stakeholders on improving governance, internal controls, and operational effectiveness
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities while expanding and maintaining a strong professional network
• Coach and develop team members, fostering a high-performance and collaborative environment
• Act as a trusted advisor by leading workshops, facilitating governance meetings, and presenting insights to senior leadership
• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated solutions across areas such as risk, compliance, transformation, and technology
• Contribute to the strategic growth and continuous improvement of the internal audit function

Profile & Qualifications

• Master’s degree with significant experience (10+ years) in internal audit, risk management, or internal controls within financial services
• Relevant professional certification (e.g., CIA or equivalent) is preferred
• Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders and build long-term relationships
• Strong business development mindset and experience in growing client portfolios
• Proven leadership experience, including managing and developing teams
• Solid understanding of the financial services landscape and regulatory environment
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
• Strategic thinker with a proactive and innovative mindset
• Awareness of data, technology, and AI-related considerations in audit and risk environments
• Fluency in Dutch and English
