Director of Architecture/Senior Enterprise Architect - Stevenage in Hertfordshire

Where will you be working? As an organisation, there is little we don’t do and plenty to get involved in. Our Group Support roles in Stevenage (Hertfordshire) are vital in making sure we can help over 11,000 people deliver essential infrastructure seamlessly across water, energy, transport and telecom.

What will you be doing? As Head of Enterprise Architecture, you will play a critical role in this journey, setting the foundations, and driving architectural discipline, and ensuring our technology strategy and landscape evolves to support future growth.

The role is responsible for establishing the architecture principles, standards and roadmaps, while working hands-on to modernise systems, close capability gaps, drive integration and automation.

It is all about building the right environment for scalable growth; ensuring technology decisions today support business needs tomorrow whilst balancing the existing change agenda. Data, AI and emerging technologies will play a critical role on this journey, creating competitive edge and shaping how we operate.

What You’ll Bring

  • Proven experience as a Head of Enterprise Architecture within a complex or rapidly scaling organisation.
  • Track record of establishing architecture frameworks in environments with low standards and maturity.
  • Strong knowledge across multiple domains (applications, data, infrastructure, integration, AI/ML, cloud, & security).
  • Hands-on experience with data platforms, analytics, and emerging technology adoption.
  • Understanding of AI/ML opportunities and practical use cases within business and IT contexts.
  • Excellent ability to communicate architectural concepts in business-friendly language across all stakeholders.
  • Influential, pragmatic, and delivery-focused—able to balance strategic ambition with operational realities.
  • Sector experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Visionary but pragmatic and able to set clear direction whilst delivering tangible outcomes.
  • Collaborative and able to bring together diverse stakeholders and create alignment.
Qualifications
  • Degree level education in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business administration, or a related field
  • Enterprise Architecture Framework knowledge e.g. TOGAF
  • Cloud certifications e.g. Microsoft Azure
  • Data & Analytics familiarity and a working knowledge of data and governance framework
