Our client, a global Tier 1 professional services firm and a recognized leader in business consulting, has engaged us to recruit a Director / Practice Lead for Financial Risk. This is a pivotal leadership role within their Finance, Risk & Compliance (FRC) practice.
The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping and expanding the Financial Risk practice, leading high-impact engagements, and serving as a trusted advisor to senior executives across top-tier financial institutions—with a particular strategic focus on Tier 1 Spanish Banks worldwide.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an executive with strategic vision, deep technical expertise in financial risk, strong commercial acumen, and proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute the strategy for the Financial Risk practice.
- Develop differentiated service lines and innovative value propositions.
- Promote technical, methodological, and technological excellence within the risk function.
Client Relationship Management
- Act as the senior point of contact for Banco Santander, driving the relationship and identifying new growth opportunities.
- Strengthen the firm’s presence across other major banks in Spain.
Project & Delivery Leadership
- Lead and oversee high-impact financial risk engagements, with a focus on:
- Credit Risk: lifecycle (origination, monitoring, recovery), IRB/IFRS 9 models, credit parameter estimation.
- Regulatory and Economic Capital
- Cross-risk frameworks: risk appetite, stress testing, ICAAP, governance.
- Ensure excellence in project delivery, stakeholder management, and quality assurance.
- Desirable: experience or familiarity with enablers such as generative AI, machine learning, model risk management (MRM), automation, data governance, or cloud analytics.
Business Development
- Identify and pursue growth opportunities across existing and new clients.
- Lead end-to-end commercial processes, including needs assessment, solution design, pricing, and negotiation.
- Represent the firm in industry forums, events, and thought leadership initiatives.
People & Practice Development
- Support and grow a team of specialists in financial risk.
- Mentor, coach, and develop talent at various levels.
- Participate in recruitment and capability-building initiatives.
Candidate Profile
- 10–12+ years of experience in financial risk consulting or senior roles within the risk function of a financial institution.
- Deep expertise in financial risk management, particularly credit risk.
- Proven experience managing senior executive relationships in banking sector.
- Strong commercial mindset with a track record of generating business.
- Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams.
- Strategic thinker with strong executive presence.
- High level of English.

- Present reports and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of risk dynamics and proposed improvements.
- Stay informed about sector trends and regulations to offer proactive and relevant advice to clients.
- Contribute to the development of internal strategies that strengthen our risk consulting offerings, ensuring compliance with quality standards.

Your Profile:
- University degree in Law, Business Administration, Economics, Actuarial Sciences, or related fields; a postgraduate degree will be considered an advantage.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in risk consulting or in leadership positions at top Tier 1 banks or professional service firms.
- Deep knowledge of risk management models, regulatory frameworks, and industry best practices.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Strategic mindset and analytical abilities for informed decision-making.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet demanding deadlines.
- Proficiency in English (both written and spoken); additional languages will be considered a plus
