At Morgan Philips Specialist Recruitment Mexico, we are currently seeking a Head of Finance for an international company and leader in the textile and apparel industry, located in Mexicali.
General Function:
The Head of Finance will be responsible for ensuring financial stability, regulatory compliance, and efficiency, while supporting business growth and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will be a strategic financial leader with extensive experience in manufacturing, cost accounting, and international financial management.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic and Financial Leadership
- Develop and implement financial strategies to support business growth, profitability, and operational objectives.
- Collaborate with senior management to drive financial decision-making and strategic planning.
- Provide financial analysis and insights on business performance, investments, and cost optimization opportunities.
- Lead and actively support key strategic and transformation initiatives, including system implementations (e.g., ERP, reporting tools, and process improvements).
- Translate strategic objectives into actionable financial plans and measurable KPIs for operations in Mexico.
Financial Management and Reporting
- Oversee all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and cash flow management.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
- Manage audits, external reporting, and ensure compliance with local (Mexican) and international accounting standards.
- Identify and communicate financial and operational risks to the finance leadership team, including FX exposure, local regulatory compliance risks, and liquidity issues.
- Ensure consistency and alignment of accounting policies and reporting between U.S. and Mexico entities.
Operational Finance and Cost Control
- Lead cost accounting and inventory control processes to improve production efficiency and profit margins.
- Implement systems and controls to monitor production costs, variances, and pricing strategies.
- Ensure alignment of local costing methodologies (e.g., standard costing, FIFO/WAC) with corporate accounting principles and ERP configuration.
- Oversee or coordinate periodic inventory counts, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Monitor financial performance of production operations, supply chain, and logistics.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with Mexican tax laws, SAT reporting requirements, and international regulations (if applicable).
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and data integrity.
- Manage relationships with banks, coordinate internal and external auditors, and liaise with tax authorities and other financial stakeholders.
- Collaborate with corporate legal and tax teams to ensure compliance with transfer pricing and cross-border reporting requirements.
- Oversee local treasury, banking, and foreign exchange management in coordination with the U.S. finance team.
- Maintain oversight of internal controls and risk management processes.
Team Leadership
- Lead and develop a high-performing finance and accounting team.
- Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making, accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Provide mentorship, performance feedback, and professional development to team members.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA/CMA certifications preferred).
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, ideally in textile, apparel, or manufacturing industries.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting, inventory management, financial controls, and cross-border operations (Mexico–U.S.).
- Experience aligning local financial practices with corporate strategy and reporting standards.
- Experience leading or supporting ERP systems (preferably NetSuite), process automation, financial integration, and reporting tools.
- Fluency in Spanish and English (written and spoken).
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex projects, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with senior leadership.
Skills
- Knowledge of maquiladora operations and compliance (IMMEX).
- Experience in FX risk management and transfer pricing.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, problem-solving, and strategic thinking.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Executive-level leadership and communication skills, with the ability to simplify complexity across different areas such as operations, sales, customer service, HR, and IT.
