IVADO is an interdisciplinary and intersectoral consortium dedicated to research, training, and knowledge mobilization in artificial intelligence (AI), led by Université de Montréal with the support of Polytechnique Montréal, HEC Montréal, Université Laval, and McGill University. IVADO brings together research centres and government and industry partners to co-develop ambitious cross-sector initiatives that advance a paradigm shift in AI and its adoption.
Between 2016 and 2025, IVADO’s activities reflect its central role in Quebec’s AI ecosystem: more than 715 scientists contributed, supported by approximately 277 members and partners. Together, they delivered 789 research projects (fundamental and collaborative), awarded more than 570 scholarships, and organized over 655 events and training activities.
The mandate at a glance
Reporting to IVADO’s Executive Committee, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is accountable for all IVADO activities and responsible for its development, visibility, and relationships with strategic partners. IVADO benefits from significant investments and an operations team of more than 50 people.
Your day-to-day challenges
Working closely with the Scientific Director and the Deputy CEO, you will:
- Report on and ensure accountability for the implementation of IVADO’s strategic directions and the achievement of its strategic objectives, particularly the IAR3 program.
- Actively contribute to strategic reflection on the future of research in AI, operations research, and optimization, in collaboration with governance bodies and key ecosystem stakeholders.
- Exercise moral, scientific, and managerial authority, and embody IVADO’s brand within IVADO and across its ecosystem.
- Bring together academic, partner, and user-community stakeholders to identify development priorities and a shared strategic vision.
- Ensure IVADO’s development and visibility across the ecosystem by building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including academic members and partners, institutions, industry members, government bodies, and international partners.
- In collaboration with the Scientific Director and the leadership team, develop and animate IVADO’s academic and scientific life, as well as knowledge transfer and valorization activities, in connection with the Scientific Committee and the Technology Transfer Committee.
- Participate in IVADO’s governance bodies, including the Executive Committee, Management Council, Members’ Assembly, Scientific Committee, and Technology Transfer Committee.
What you need to succeed in this role
- Be a faculty member at Université de Montréal, Polytechnique Montréal, or HEC Montréal—or be able to become one.
- Be recognized for work in operations research, artificial intelligence, quantitative methods, or a related field.
- Demonstrate knowledge of active research groups in the field.
- Have recognized experience in industry partnerships and technology transfer.
- Show a strong track record of achievements and delivery of strategic research projects.
- Have deep knowledge of research funding and transfer issues in the digital intelligence domain.
- Have experience managing large-scale funds.
- Demonstrate recognized executive management experience.
- Have experience leading multidisciplinary teams.
- Bring a broad network across research, innovation, and technology transfer.
- Be able to work collegially, demonstrate leadership, and communicate effectively.
- Demonstrate strong political acumen.
- Be fully proficient in French and English, spoken and written.
