Job Title: Production Engineer

Location: Hong Kong

Overview
We are recruiting a detail-oriented and proactive Production Engineer for a respected optical lens manufacturer in Hong Kong. The role focuses on ensuring efficient manufacturing processes, maintaining product quality, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate has hands-on manufacturing experience in optics or precision components, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to process excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production Support: Oversee daily production operations to ensure targets for quality, yield, and output are met. Identify and remove production bottlenecks.
  • Process Development & Optimization: Design, document and optimise manufacturing processes (grinding, polishing, coating, inspection, etc.) to improve efficiency, reduce waste and lower costs.
  • Equipment Management: Assist in specification, commissioning and maintenance of production machinery and automation systems. Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for equipment failures.
  • Quality Assurance: Work with QA to implement and maintain quality control procedures. Perform SPC (statistical process control) analysis and corrective actions to sustain product specifications and tolerances.
  • New Product Introduction (NPI): Support scale-up from pilot to mass production, develop work instructions, tooling requirements and process validation plans.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead Kaizen projects, implement lean manufacturing methodologies (5S, SMED, value-stream mapping) and track improvement metrics.
  • Health & Safety & Compliance: Ensure production activities comply with safety regulations and internal policies; promote safe work practices.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Liaise with R&D, quality, procurement and supply chain teams to resolve technical issues and drive production improvements.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare process documentation, production reports and KPIs; present findings and improvement proposals to management.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Optical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience: 3+ years’ experience in manufacturing or production engineering; experience in optical lens production, precision optics or related precision manufacturing is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, tooling and metrology. Familiarity with process control, SPC, CAD/CAM, PLCs and automated equipment is advantageous.
  • Problem-Solving: Proven experience with root-cause analysis tools (e.g., 8D, Fishbone, FMEA) and implementing corrective/preventive actions.
  • Continuous Improvement: Hands-on experience with Lean, Six Sigma or similar methodologies; certification (e.g., Green/Black Belt) is a plus.
  • Communication: Good command of spoken and written English and Cantonese; able to communicate effectively with shopfloor teams and engineering stakeholders.
  • Personal Attributes: Analytical, detail-oriented, proactive, comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment and able to manage multiple priorities.
