Job Purpose:
The Employee Relations Manager will join HR team to lead efforts that boost employee satisfaction, address workplace conflicts, and maintain a positive, compliant work environment. Responsibilities include managing sensitive employee issues, partnering with managers to ensure fair practices, and supporting HR policies that reflect legal requirements and company culture. Through constructive conflict resolution, advocacy for fairness, and open communication, this individual fosters an inclusive workplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently conduct internal investigations into potential violations of laws, collective bargaining agreements, or company policies.
- Manage and respond to all employee and labor relations issues within the organization.
- Establish, implement, oversee, and continuously improve controls that promote legal and policy compliance.
- Investigate and resolve complex employee grievances, disputes, and complaints confidentially, promptly, and impartially.
- Monitor workplace culture and suggest improvements to people policies and employee engagement initiatives.
- Counsel business leaders on disciplinary actions, layoffs, and employee separations to maintain alignment with employment law and company values.
- Handle inquiries related to harassment, misconduct, or discrimination and prepare thorough documentation and reports.
- Collaborate with legal counsel or external advisors when handling employment-related legal matters.
- Support and facilitate manager and employee training on topics like conflict resolution, anti-harassment, and effective communication.
- Track trends and metrics in employee relations to identify patterns, risks, or concerns and report findings to HR leadership.
- Ensure thorough, accurate, and compliant documentation and reporting for employee relations cases.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor or Master degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Employment Law, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Considered a technical expert in their field, with deep and broad expertise in their discipline and comprehensive knowledge of related areas. Requires strong understanding of employment laws, regulatory environments, and disciplinary processes.
- Able to anticipate business and regulatory changes, recommending improvements to products, processes, or services. Capable of working across functions in matrix organizations and handling multiple cases concurrently.
- Leads high-risk, complex projects and develops strategies for successful execution.
- Handles unique and complicated issues affecting the business, using conceptual and innovative thinking for solution development. Demonstrates keen attention to detail, conflict resolution, mediation, negotiation, influence, and analytical skills, making balanced decisions under pressure.
- Directs program, project, or service allocation and direction, operating within general functional policies and industry standards.
- Communicates complex concepts, anticipates objections, and persuades senior stakeholders to accept new perspectives. Possesses excellent communication, empathy, and judgment, building trust, coaching managers, resolving conflicts, and managing sensitive scenarios with professionalism.
- Demonstrated experience in HR, focusing on employee relations, industrial relations, HR advisory positions, or employment law. Must have conducted workplace investigations and prepared written case summaries.
