Senior Digital Hardware Engineer | Space Electronics (High-Speed)
📍 Tres Cantos, Madrid
At Morgan Philips, we are partnering with our client Thales Alenia Space, a global leader in the space industry, to recruit a Senior High-Speed Digital Engineer.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electronics engineer to design and validate advanced digital hardware for spaceborne equipment, contributing directly to international satellite and payload programmes.
The successful candidate will work throughout the complete hardware development lifecycle, from architecture definition and detailed design to validation, qualification and final acceptance.
The Opportunity
As Senior High-Speed Digital Engineer, you will develop robust digital electronics solutions based on FPGAs, microprocessors, high-speed interfaces and complex memory architectures.
Working closely with Systems, FPGA, PCB, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Quality and Test teams, you will ensure compliance with demanding performance, reliability, quality, cost and schedule requirements.
The role offers significant technical ownership, exposure to cutting-edge space technologies and participation in internal and customer design reviews.
Key Responsibilities
- Define digital electronics architectures for onboard space equipment.
- Design complex hardware based on FPGAs, microprocessors, memories and communication interfaces.
- Perform schematic capture, electronics simulations and signal integrity analysis.
- Define PCB routing guidelines and review placement, layout and post-layout results.
- Prepare technical documentation and board-level validation procedures.
- Support hardware validation, qualification and acceptance campaigns.
- Lead technical discussions and resolve design issues with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ensure compliance with technical, quality, cost and schedule objectives.
Your Background
- Master’s degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, Industrial Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- At least six years of experience in digital electronics design.
- Strong knowledge of FPGAs, microprocessors, communication buses and high-speed memories.
- Experience with memory technologies such as DDR2, DDR4 and NOR Flash.
- Proven experience designing and analysing digital links above 1 Gbps.
- Experience in signal integrity simulation and complex PCB design.
- Knowledge of tools such as HyperLynx, ADS, Ansys, LTspice, OrCAD or Mentor xDesigner.
- Familiarity with VITA or ECSS standards would be highly valued.
- Experience with Kintex UltraScale, PolarFire, RTG4, RTAX or RISC-V technologies would be an advantage.
- Professional proficiency in English and Spanish.
Professionals from space, aerospace, defence, avionics, telecommunications, semiconductors or high-reliability electronics may be particularly relevant.
What Will Make You Successful
- Strong technical judgement and attention to detail.
- Rigorous and methodical approach to hardware design.
- Ability to take ownership of complex technical developments.
- Proactive identification and resolution of design risks.
- Structured problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Effective communication with engineering teams and project stakeholders.
- Collaborative mindset within multidisciplinary environments.
- Commitment to quality, reliability and continuous improvement.
