General Function
The Senior Plant Accountant will ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the plant’s accounting information, execute financial closing activities, and analyze manufacturing costs and inventory.
Reporting to the Plant Controller or Plant Finance Manager, this position will work closely with Production, Purchasing, Warehouse, and Supply Chain teams to explain variances, strengthen controls, and support business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting and Financial Closing

Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities according to corporate deadlines.

Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.

Ensure accurate accounting for plant transactions.

Prepare financial reports and explain variances against budget, forecast, and prior periods.

Respond to information requests from corporate Finance.
Cost Accounting and Inventory

Support standard costing and the valuation of raw materials, work in process, and finished goods.

Analyze material, labor, and manufacturing overhead variances.
-
Investigate differences between actual and standard costs with Operations.
-
Participate in physical inventories and cycle counts, reconciling discrepancies.
-
Review scrap, obsolete and slow-moving inventory, and related provisions.

Support standard cost updates and validate manufacturing data used in costing.
Fixed Assets, Internal Controls, and Audit
-
Maintain accurate records of fixed asset additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.

Monitor CAPEX accounting and capitalization.
-
Prepare supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
-
Ensure compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.

Support SOX controls where applicable.
Planning and Continuous Improvement

Support plant cost and expense budgets and forecasts.

Provide financial analysis to identify efficiency opportunities.
-
Improve closing, reconciliation, and reporting processes.
-
Participate in automation and process standardization initiatives.
Education
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
-
Additional training in manufacturing costs, Finance, or internal controls is desirable.
Experience
-
At least 5 years of experience in Accounting and Finance, including 3 years in manufacturing plants.

Hands-on experience in financial closing and balance sheet reconciliations.

Practical knowledge of standard costing, manufacturing variances, and inventory controls.

Experience with fixed assets and audits.
-
Experience in multinational companies with international reporting is desirable.
Skills
-
Advanced Microsoft Excel.

Experience with SAP FI/CO or a comparable manufacturing ERP.

Advanced English, written and spoken, is required.

Knowledge of Mexican Financial Reporting Standards and the applicable corporate framework: US GAAP or IFRS.

Ability to interpret financial information and explain variances to operational teams.

Power BI and reporting automation skills are an advantage.
