Position Summary
We are seeking a highly accomplished semiconductor device expert to lead advanced technology enablement in close partnership with leading global foundries. This is a high-impact technical leadership role that bridges semiconductor device innovation, foundry collaboration, and product execution.
The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in device physics, advanced CMOS technologies, silicon validation, and technology development, while influencing both internal stakeholders and external foundry partners. This individual will play a critical role in defining device requirements, shaping technology roadmaps, driving process optimization, and enabling successful product deployment from concept through high-volume production.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Leadership & Device Strategy
- Define and drive device architecture, scaling strategies, and performance targets for advanced semiconductor technologies.
- Lead device-level tradeoff analysis across performance, power, variability, manufacturability, and reliability metrics.
- Provide technical leadership in Design-Technology Co-Optimization (DTCO) and influence product and technology architecture decisions.
- Develop and guide long-term device technology roadmaps aligned with business objectives and foundry capabilities.
- Evaluate emerging device architectures and process technologies to maintain competitive advantage.
Foundry Collaboration & Technology Enablement
- Serve as the primary technical interface between the organization and leading semiconductor foundry partners.
- Drive alignment on process technologies, PDKs, device models, design rules, and technology changes.
- Influence device and process optimization strategies to achieve product performance, quality, and manufacturing objectives.
- Lead technical reviews with foundry partners and manage escalations related to yield, reliability, and performance issues.
- Build strong strategic relationships that foster successful technology development and manufacturing execution.
Silicon Analysis, Yield & Performance Optimization
- Lead silicon validation and correlation activities, including model-to-silicon and simulation-to-silicon verification.
- Drive initiatives to improve parametric yield, reduce variability, and enhance device reliability.
- Lead root cause investigations for performance, yield, and reliability challenges, defining effective corrective actions.
- Provide technical guidance on statistical analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), characterization methodologies, and data interpretation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize silicon performance throughout the product lifecycle.
Cross-Functional Technical Leadership
- Lead collaboration across device engineering, process integration, design, reliability, product engineering, and manufacturing teams.
- Provide technical direction for test structures, characterization plans, silicon debug, and design enablement activities.
- Support product qualification, tape-out readiness, bring-up, and production release milestones.
- Mentor and develop engineering talent while promoting technical excellence across global teams.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to engineering and business leadership.
Program & Stakeholder Management
- Drive complex multi-site technology development and deployment programs involving both internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Present technical recommendations, risk assessments, and strategic decisions to senior leadership.
- Balance technical challenges, project schedules, resource constraints, and business priorities to ensure successful execution.
- Influence key technology and manufacturing decisions through strong technical credibility and leadership.
Required Qualifications
Education
- PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Semiconductor Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Candidates with a Master's degree and significant relevant industry experience will also be considered.
Experience
- 8+ years of experience in semiconductor device engineering, technology development, process integration, or related fields.
- Demonstrated expertise in advanced CMOS and FinFET technologies at leading-edge process nodes.
- Proven experience collaborating with external semiconductor foundries in technology development and/or manufacturing environments.
- Strong track record of delivering technology innovations from development through production.
Technical Expertise
Deep knowledge of:
- Semiconductor device physics and transistor operation.
- Advanced CMOS and FinFET technologies.
- Device characterization and electrical analysis.
- Yield improvement, variability management, and reliability engineering.
- Silicon debug, failure analysis, and root cause investigation.
Hands-on experience with:
- Device modeling and model validation.
- PDK qualification and technology enablement.
- Silicon correlation and characterization.
- Statistical analysis and DOE methodologies.
- Industry-standard simulation and analysis tools, including SPICE and TCAD.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with advanced technology nodes (16nm and below) or emerging architectures such as Gate-All-Around (GAA) and nanosheet devices.
- Strong background in DTCO and product-driven technology optimization.
- Familiarity with automotive, industrial, or mission-critical semiconductor applications.
- Experience leading technology transfer programs or manufacturing ramp activities.
- Demonstrated success influencing foundry technology roadmaps and joint development initiatives.
